E-Communication at Fermilab

Desktop conferencingVarious methods of communication are available to you to help you do your work, including:

Email

Users at Fermilab receive an email address when they request a username and their primary accounts. Fermilab email addresses are of the form username@fnal.gov. All messages to or from an address of this form pass through the Fermilab email gateway server. This gateway not only acts as a distribution point for all electronic mail between "@fnal.gov" and outside systems, it facilitates the transfer of messages between dissimilar mail systems. It also scans all messages originating off-site for virus-infected attachments.

The Fermilab email gateway server doesn't store messages; users need to choose a system on which to conduct their email correspondance, and then set their forwarding to point to that system. Fermilab encourages use of its dedicated Exchange servers for this purpose. The Exchange servers also scan every message they receive for viruses, including those originating on-site.

Listserv mailing lists

Listserv is the supported mailing list software at Fermilab.  You may use or maintain your mailing lists with ease through your email client.
