Linux Screen Saver/Lock Setting

SLF4 / SLF5 KDE

Open "Configure Desktop"

Right click on the desktop - Select "Configure Desktop"

Set the Screen Saver Settings

Click on the "Screen Saver" icon.
Make sure "Start Automatically" and "Require Password to stop" are checked.
Make sure the two times add up to less than 15 minutes.
Click "OK" to save and finish.

Manually Locking the Screen

SLF 4 and SLF 5 KDE screens can be locked with the Ctrl-Alt-L key combination


SLF5 GNOME

Open "Screensaver Preferences"

Click on the menu items System -> Preferences -> Screensaver

Set the Screensaver Preferences


Make sure the "Activate screensaver when computer is idle" box is checked.
Make sure the "Lock screen when screensaver is active" box is checked.
Make sure the "Regard the computer as idle after" is less than 15 minutes.
Click "Close" to finish.

Manually Locking the Screen

SLF 5 GNOME screens can be locked with the Ctrl-Alt-L key combination

Open "Screensaver Preferences"

Click on the menu items Application -> Preferences -> Screensaver

Set the Screensaver Preferences

Make sure the Mode is not "Disable Screen Saver"
Make sure the "Lock Screen" box is checked.
Make sure the Blank and Lock Screen times add up to less than 15 minutes.
Click "Close" to finish.
