Introduction

Welcome to the Licensing at Fermilab Site.

The Computing Division provides a service to assist employees in obtaining the software and services they need.

Microsoft Enterprise Agreement

The laboratory has taken advantage of the Enterprise-Wide Agreement (EWA) Program the DOE has established with Microsoft. This agreement allows the user community to obtain the applications in an efficient manner.

The appropriate manner to request software is to create a Service Desk ticket and request the software you need. Procard purchase information found here. A listing of supported software may be found here. The request will be routed to your local support staff for installation upon task code approval.

The Computing Division provides software support for both Windows and Apple desktops.  The majority of the licenses will be obtained through the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA).

Microsoft Agreement Metrics

Through the EA Agreement Fermilab employees may take classes via vouchers.  The program provides electronic vouchers for instructor-led courses at Microsoft Technical Education Centers (MS CTECs).  To redeem your benefits, log a ticket with the helpdesk to request training voucher benefits. This form will go to the Software Assurance benefit coordinator.

E-Learning is available through the EA Agreement.  Microsoft E-Learning courses are designed for maximum skills-transfer.  E-learning eliminates time and location boundaries so the user community can study when and where it's convenient. List of available Software Assurance E-Learning courses.

Please see Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

Microsoft Employee Purchase Program & Home Use Program

A benefit of the EA Agreement allows Fermilab employees the right to purchase software at a discounted rate through the Employee Purchase Program (EPP).  The Home Use Program (HUP) allows Fermilab employees to obtain software for which they are licensed at Fermilab to install on their home computer.

Adobe Contractual Licensing Program (CLP)

The laboratory has taken advantage of the Contractual Licensing Program (CLP) the DOE has established with Adobe. The Adobe CLP offers software solutions for producing and delivering content.  Adobe's full line of products are included. Please see cost table (on-site only). Note:  Most common ordered products are listed in cost table.  If you do not see the item that you are interested in, please contact licensemgr

To request Adobe products create a Service Desk ticket and request the software you need. This helpdesk request requires the submission of a task code on the request.  The ticket will be routed to your local support staff for installation upon task code approval. Management of PC's and Mac's at Fermilab

SMS at Fermilab
Systems Management Server (SMS) provides a comprehensive solution for change and configuration management for the Microsoft platform, enabling Fermilab to provide relevant software and updates to users quickly and cost-effectively.
Application Deployment
SMS can deploy applications to a large range of clients simultaneously and quickly without administrators having to visit the desktops.  SMS leverages Active Directory and uses methods to 'discover' machines based on criteria expressed in a query.  The results of the discoveries serve as target points for the deployment of applications.  The pc clients receive the SMS client through a GPO.
SMS Client Installation MetricsClient Installation Progress , Client Installation vs. Active Directory Membership
Patch Management
SMS along with WSUS provides a centralized, efficient way to ensure that managed machines are kept up to date with updates.
Quest Management Extensions (VMX)
Macintosh's are managed through the use of Systems Management Server (SMS) using a product called Quest Management Extensions (VMX).
The VMX client will need to be manually installed on the mac client. Specific instructions may be found here. VMX Client Installation
Centrify
Mac's are joined to the domain through the use of Centrify. When mac's join our Active Directory Domain they will receive specific Group Policies that will assist with the management of macintosh's throughout the domain.
