Installing the VPN Client for Windows

Installation

Note: You need to have administrative privileges on your computer in order to install the VPN Client.

  1. Go to the following site, to request a VPN account

  2. Information Required:
    • Fermi ID
    • Affiliation

    NOTE: Remember to check the agreement statement at the bottom of the Account Request Form

  3. You will receive information back via email with a link to download your client file and profile.

  4. Download the client to your local disk. Unzip the file and put your .pcf (profile) into the same folder as your unzipped files are located.
    NOTE: If you do not put your profile in the VPN Client folder you will need to import after installation of the client.

  5. Double click on Setup.exe and follow the prompts.

  6. Reboot your machine, then continue with the Configuration
  7. Call the helpdesk (x2345) after 2 hours (really !) to obtain your password.
    NOTE: You password needs to be 8 or 9 characters ONLY and your username is in the form of (full) firstname.lastname

Configuration

  1. Launch the Cisko Systems VPN Client

  2. Enter your Username: and Password: that was provided to you from the helpdesk
    NOTE: Your username will be in the form of (full) firstname.lastname

  3. Press Continue and you will be connected thru the VPN

Import

If you did not put your .pcf (profile) into the same folder where you unzipped the original files, you will need to import your profile.

  1. After you have launched the VPN Client, Use the pulldown menu under Connection Entries then go to Import

  2. Import your profile as shown.

  3. Ensure you receive information that your VPN connection was successfully imported

Disconnect

  1. Bring up the VPN status box by double clicking or right clicking on the yellow icon on your toolbar

  2. Click on the Disconnect button as shown. You will see the status on the bottom showing you are being Disconnected from the IPSec link.
