Security Team
Putting together a training coarce on Cert's and PKI.
Review of a breakin. Lesson learned. If you find out about a
compromised machine, even if it's offsite at a institution, let computer
security know.
Baseline configurations.
The 2.6 kernel - pro's and con's
Kurt - worker nodes do well. Head node, which get's heavily loaded, has
been giving errors. Current record is 7 days being up. Believe it is the
particular scsi driver. Hyperthreading hasn't been turned on.
Wayne - 2.6 on dcache pool nodes. When they ran dcbench, everything was
fine. When put into service they started gettting errors from java and xfs.
Sometimes just a lockup, sometimes a kernel panic. - Tried turning off
hyperthreading. Tried redhat kernel with just xfs kernel module.
CDF - saw lots of crashing, turned off hyperthreading and it helped it.
Write pools seemed to crash more than the read pools.
Bonnie - 3 ware problems
Lynn - works good on desktop ... except for her firefox.
Linux Update - Troy Dawson
Scientific Linux Fermi 3.0.5 with updated installer kernel
Old install images will still work, there will be no reason to get new CD's
This new install image is for those people who have to have the new kernel
in order to install on newer hardware.
To get this new installer image you will need to download it from
ftp://linux.fnal.gov/linux/lts305/i386/images/Fermi-2.4.21-3701/ To use this new installer image, use it just the way you would the normal
installer. Nothing should be different.
linux-errata@fnal.gov mailling list
On monday March 13, 2006, all Scientific Linux Fermi errata e-mails with go
ONLY to the linux-errata mailling list. It will not go to either linux-users,
or linux-users-announce.
On Feb. 21, 2006, all people on the linux-users-announce mailling list were
automatically signed up for the linux-errata mailling list. (They were given one
week prior to this to opt-out.) At that time, errata e-mails no longer was sent
to the linux-users-announce mailling list, because we did not want these people to
get double e-mails.
If you want to sign up, send e-mail to listserv@fnal.gov leave the subject blank,
and put the following in the first line of the body of the message
subscribe linux-errata
We hope that the creation of this new list, along with the new format of the
errata e-mail, will make it easier for people to know what security errata have
been released. This is turn will hopefully help users be more secure.
