On a date to be announced, CST will host a Computer Security Awareness Day in WH1.
Brown bag seminars, demos and handouts will be available all day. More information
will be distributed as the date gets closer.
Careless use of Peer-to-Peer applications DO result in MPAA letters (and lawsuits)
to copyright violators. The Lab does not want to receive ANY of these letters. It is
prohibited by Lab policy (and illegal) to retain or distribute copyrighted works that
you do not have a license for.
A challenge was presented to the Linux experts who maintain the Fermi distributions
to develop a way to 'wrap' xhost to discourage or prevent 'xhost +' type activities.
Similar effort is going into the Windows X server applications. If your host is found to
have an open X server, said machine WILL be blocked from network access until X is
properly secured. Please report any localized wrapping one has done to XHOST to prevent
a blanket 'allow all X connections' and any problems experienced with such setting so it
can be considered for the Fermi distributions.
