Session Breakdown

Basic PII Training

This education course is offered to all members of the Fermilab community and is included as an ITNA requirement. Presented by Fermilab’s Chief Information Security Officer Irwin Gaines, this course is designed to educate you on the DOE regulations regarding PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and the Fermilab policy regarding this information.

Advanced PII Training

This education course is offered to individuals who need to handle PII (Personally Identifiable Information) as part of their job responsiblities. This course is included as an ITNA requirement. Fermilab’s Chief Information Security Officer Irwin Gaines will guide the class through the restrictions on the use of PII at Fermilab and how to properly manage this information.

Cybersecurity Essentials for Everyone

This education course is offered to all members of the Fermilab community including employees, visitors, contractors, and students. Also available for ITNA credit (course title: Basic Computer Security for Fermilab Users), but those not seeking ITNA credit are still encouraged to attend! Designed with YOU in mind, this presentation covers everything you need to know to stay safe online at the lab and wherever you are using your computer.

Advanced Cybersecurity Education for SysAdmins

This education course is offered to System Administrators in need of advanced cybersecurity training to incorporate into their job. Also available for ITNA credit (course title: Security Essentials for Fermilab Administrators). Learn how you are the last line of defense against cyber threats, and how you can help protect the machines that you are responsible for.

Mobile Device Cybersecurity

Join us for a presentation from Chris Sheppard of Fermilab’s Desktop Engineering Group as he breaks down the cyber dangers of mobile device usage. It is important to recognize that all computing devices, even non-traditional ones like phones or tablets, are susceptible to attack. This presentation will also deliver ways to prevent these attacks to your phone.

Cybersecurity Basics for Scientists

Presented by Jeny Teheran from Cybersecurity in the Scientific Computing Services division, this talk is designed to provide the essentials that all Fermilab scientists need to know when working safely on lab computers. The presentation will include information about how to run grid jobs and the various elements needed to do this successfully.

Threat Analysis from a Vendor Perspective

Cyber threat analysis will always be varied depending on many factors, such as industry.  What might impact a bank or online retailer would greatly differ than a national laboratory.  How other organizations deal with threats as it affects their critical data might be surprising.  Join Travis Nolan and Jacob Ideji from Cisco Systems, Inc. as they elaborate on some of these threats in their experiences.

Federated Authentication and You

Join us for a presentation from Olga Terlyga from Authentication Services as she envisions a possible future of federated authentication at the lab.  While a federated identity service is something seen more and more in the industry, she will explore challenges to implementing this, from simplifying management to provisioning access.

Paddling Against the Storm of Cyber Threats

Threats to your data are always a constant. While we rely on protections such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus, etc. those aren’t entirely consistent across all your devices or even where you do your computing from.  Art Lee from Computer Security will discuss such threats and how your data is impacted.

Don’t Get Hooked! How to Avoid Phishing Scams

Presented by Jessie Pudelek from the Cybersecurity Team, this talk is designed to teach you everything you need to know about phishing scams. From understanding the danger and success of these attacks to learning how to protect yourself from the threat, this presentation is sure to leave you with all your most pressing phishing questions answered.
