Adding a Printer Though Network Neighborhood in Windows 2000
Windows 2000 can print directly over the network using LPR,
or any other transport. For ease of administration and setup it is suggested to have the
printers configured on a single machine such as a departmental server and then shared to the user
community. Once the printer is configured on the server and shared out, it is a simple 4 step
process for a client W2000 workstation to use the printer
Printer Setup
Double click on My Network Places, select Entire Network, select
Microsoft Windows Network, then select Fermi or FNAL (depends which domain your
departmental server resides) A list of available
servers in the domain will appear
Double click on your departmental server (See Fig. 1).

Double click on the printer that you want to set up on your local machine (See Fig. 2).

When prompted to set up the printer and continue this operation, choose Yes
(See Fig. 3).

The printer queue window will appear on your desktop.
