Gateway Reports

The Fermilab mailserver has a number of functions. These include accepting mail sent to user@fnal.gov or user@fnal.fnal.gov, acting as a outgoing SMTP server for the desktop IMAP and POP clients, routing mail between SMTP hosts on site, and hosting almost 1500 mailing lists.

A number of people have asked about the number of messages that go through the mailservers on a daily basis and that is what this page is about.

Overview

Two graphical views are available. The first is a view of the previous week by hour. This shows the number of messages delivered each hour of each day. This page is updated daily.

The second view shows the number of messages and the total size of the messages that were delivered by the mailservers for the past 52 weeks. For example: during the period of June 18th, 2001 to June 23, 2002 the mailservers delivered on average of 471,345 messages per week. The total size of these messages averaged 11.6Gb per week. The mailservers have delivered as many as 668,000 messages and as much as 28.6Gb of mail in a week.
