Changing the SMTP server on popular email clients
Outlook Express
If Outlook Express isn't running, please start it up. Then click on Tools, Accounts.

 |
| When using a ISP from a home computer it is highly recommended that you use your ISP's smtp server as your outgoing SMTP server. Enter it in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) field and click on OK. Note: mail.isp.com does not exist at the time of this writing. Please don't use that as your outgoing SMTP server. If it did exist it would probably be setup not to relay. |

Netscape Messenger

Pine
If Pine isn't running, please start it up.
From the initial pine menu screen select "S" for Setup and within that submenu the "C" option for Configure. At the top of the first page is a line that looks like this:
smtp-server = smtp.fnal.gov
You would change this (using the "C" Change Value command) to replace smtp.fnal.gov with the appropriate mail gateway for your ISP (this should be available in their setup information or by placing a call to their support line). You should expect this to be a machine name like mail.isp.com (fictional example).
These instructions generated for pine v4.05 but should work for any v4.x release.
Eudora
If Eudora isn't running, please start it up. Then click on Tools, Options, and then the Hosts icon.
