- Triggering with 25% of DAQ Oct 2
- DAQ TDR: Nov 2002
- Physics TDR: Dec 2003
A new Milestone: Oct 2-3
Hi all;
I was informed yesterday by our spokespersons of a new
request for results (that affects us) from the LHCC. Today
we have things confirmed.
Basically, in the process of evaluating the various staging
scenarios of CMS, due to the lack of funds that is, the issue
of starting data-taking in Aug 2006 with only 1/4 of the DAQ
capability in place has been presented. This 1/4 refers to
the bandwidth sustained, and it translates, right now, to
limiting the Level-1 trigger to 25 kHz (instead of the 75 kHz
party line up to now). Recall that we always cite a factor 3
safety, so this means we have to allocate a total of 8kHz
bandwidth to the full Level-1 trigger accept rate. Sticking
for now to the (arbitrary) 50% calorimeter and 50% muons,
this implies a total of 4kHz of trigger rate per detector -- a
rather sobering number.
Moreover, the official running scenario for the LHC startup
is now 2x10^33 (and not 10^33).
So, in a nutshell, we are asked to show that (or whether)
CMS can still trigger on and select overall the discovery
physics under this 25% of the DAQ scenario. They want a
report by the LHCC comprehensive review of Octiber 1st
and 2nd.
Please mark the date on your calendars -- and block the time!
Best regards,
Paris
