|
| |
| |
| |
| |
| MISSION |
| |
| Provide a common computational and communication fabric infrastructure
for the Fermilab Scientific program and general IT needs of the
laboratory. |
| |
| The computing fabric includes: |
| |
| -- Operation of Petabyte-scale, grid-based permanent data
storage, with substantial data movement capabilities. |
| |
| -- Laboratory campus networking, as well as world-wide end-to-end
connectivity apropos to the Lab's mission. |
| |
| -- Middleware development, integration, deployment and support
for computing in a grid context. |
| |
| -- Implemention of the laboratory's computer security plan, with special
sensitivity to the HEP's need for open science and global interoperability. |
| |
| -- Development, construction and operation of the fabric aspects of the
laboratory's grid presence and the Lattice Gauge Computational
Facility. |
| |
| -- Videoconferencing for the laboratory.
|

| GROUPS |
| |
| |
| Computer Security Team |
Responsible for sitewide security infrastructure and monitoring. |
| |
| Fabric Technology Projects |
The Fabric Technology Projects Group hosts and supports
projects within the Computational and Communications Fabric
Department. Projects include :
- The Lattice QCD Computational Facility.
- The CDMS Experiment DAQ system.
- The fabric aspects of FermiGrid.
- Consulting and new technology investigations.
|
| |
| Wide Area Systems |
Provides leadership and expertise to enable the laboratory's data intensive science on a world-wide scale. |
| |
| |
| NETWORK Section |
| |
| Provide all aspects of data communications
support, including design, acquisition, installation,
operation, maintenance & documentation of cabling plant,
device infrastructure, and network services necessary to
support the Laboratory's computer network facilities. |
| |
| GROUPS |
| |
| |
| Data Communications Infrastructure |
Provide and support the physical network infrastructure for the Computing Division and its customers. Provide design, installation and support services for the Division's video conference room initiative. |
| |
| Data Com & Networks |
Design, implement and support the network device infrastructure that defines the Laboratory data
communications network. Provide the network services necessary to effectively utilize that network.
|
| |
| Videoconferencing |
|
| |
| |
| Grid Software and Services Section |
| |
| Participate in projects in the Computing Division's project framework, with expertise centered on software development and integration of software for Grid Fabrics and other Grid systems, Data Movement and Storage, as well as other projects relevant to the division. |
| |
| GROUPS |
| |
| Distributed Systems Projects |
The DSP group develops and helps support the Tape based Mass Storage
System Enstore, for Fermilab, High Energy Physics Experiments, and
other collaborators. It participates in providing Grid enabled
access to Data Storage, and supports software development and
integration projects as driven by the needs of the Computing Division.
|
| |
| |
| Grid Data Handling |
The GDH group develops distributed software systems to enable PB-scale disk-based data storage and
movement for FNAL experiments, US-CMS and the LCG in general, FermiGrid, and the OSG. The group actively consults with
storage system administrators to help maintain FNAL and US-CMS SRM/DCache systems. Also, the group works
with other storage-related projects and collaborations to trade insights and look for areas of overlap to
exploit for mutual benefit.
|
| |
| |
| Grid Services Middleware |
The GSM group participates in collaborative projects involving the Computing Division, experiment collaborations (including RunII and USCMS), and grid organizations (such as Open Science Grid and the Particle Physics Data Grid). The expertise of the group are centered on software development and integration for fabric management and grid services. |
| |
| |
| Integrated Administration |
The ISA group constructs and administers permanent tape-based storage systems for scientific data, including providing file-level stewardship for the labs scientific data sets. The group constructs and administers disk-based caching systems for the STKEN system. The group constructs and administers the CCF Department file server infra
structure. The group provides 24x7 first line problem resolution for Experiments Dcache head nodes. The group constructs and administers the needfile systems for legacy 8mm tape mounts. The group provides a 24x7 pager list for front-line problem resolution as needed, including the Lattice Gauge Computational
Facility. |
